“THUMBS-DOWN ON GREEN BAGS”
You mention in the February 2009 issue [p. 36] that the
Debbie Meyer Green Bags extend the life of fruits and vegetables. But when I used them, the fruit was inedible after
a day or two. What’s up? —A reader via e-mail
EDITORS RESPOND: The manufacturer says produce may
ripen extra fast if the fruits and vegetables aren’t completely dry before they’re put in the bag. To be safe, don’t
wash produce until right before it’s eaten.

LINDA
QUIRK
A mother
running
for hope
After her daughter Katherine
completed drug-addiction
treatment in 2003, Quirk
vowed to raise $1 million
for the recovery center,
Caron Treatment Centers,
by running seven marathons
on seven continents. “On
five of the runs, I took either
a first-time or novice marathoner, and the biggest
reward is seeing the empowerment on their faces as they
cross the finish line,” she
says. Quirk completed her
seventh marathon in March
and has raised $250,000.
